“A life well lived” 101 years young. These words are in celebration of the life of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Alma Myrtle (Bond) DeJeet who was promoted to glory to be with her Lord and Saviour on October 18, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay on March 1,1917, she was the daughter of the late Francis (Bishop) and John Wesley Bond and she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a long standing member of the Salvation Army New Aberdeen and Glace Bay Corp, serving in many positions including Sunday school teacher, Girl Guide Leader, League of Mercy, member of the Songsters, and Home League Secretary for many years. Working side by side with her husband John they together operated Johnnies Bakery from 1939 to 1972.
Mourning her loss are son, Milton (Irene); daughters, Jeri (Gary) MacDonald and Merle (Brian) Bourgeois; son-in-law Bert Crew and daughter-in-law, Sylvia McManus; grandchildren, Wesley (Leslie), Wade Crews, Robilyn (Crews) MacAulay (Brad), Craig, Blair and Cori DeJeet, Stephen, Raymond, Keith and Marcia MacDonald, Kelly, Kyla and Brian (Tiffany) Bourgeois. Also missing their Nanny D. are her great-grandchildren, Darah, Camilla, Caleb, Bryanna, Justin, Courtney, Jacob, Ethan, Devin, Emma Irene, Kayla, Alexis M, Sam, Lily, Will, Alexis P, Mitchell, Emma Rae, Maddison, Rain, Brian, Xavier and Kiara.
Besides her parents Alma was predeceased by her husband, John; sons, John Wesley (Jack), Graham and daughter, Joan Crews; brothers, Carman (Rachael), Allister (Jean) and Wesley (Francis); sisters, Doris, Anna (Mac MacKenzie), Norma (Don MacLean) and Erna (Lauchie MacDonald).
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 in Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 in the Salvation Army Glace Bay at 1 p.m., burial to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
