Norma Hazelwood

Norma (Laing) Hazelwood passed away Oct. 18, 2018 in Prince Albert. Born in 1929 to George and Reta Laing at North Battleford, she grew up on the farm at Gallivan, SK. While attending Teachers’ College in Saskatoon, she became friends with Pearl Hazelwood who introduced Norma to her brother, Laurence. Norma and Laurence married in 1953 and the farm near Prince Albert became her second home. Family and farm always came first, but Norma found time to volunteer with the Homemakers Club, United Church Women, Red Cross and the P.A. Exhibition Association, of which she was a life member. She approached life with optimism throughout her 89 years, even during failing health in the past year. Norma was predeceased by husband, Laurence; in laws Pearl (John) Weston, Allan Lloyd, Neil Hazelwood and Lewis Brown; and by her siblings and their spouses: Gordon (Eileen) Laing, Grace (John) Leslie, Ralph Laing, William Laing, Eunice (George) Engler, Olive (Vern) Comerford and Calvin (Marion) Laing. She is remembered with love by her three children and spouses, eight grandchildren and spouses, and five great-grandchildren: daughter Barbara (Grant) Gustafson and children, Jenn (Geoff) Henry, Taryn, Sloane and Carys; Geoffrey (Amanda) Gustafson, Aiden and Brinley; and Rebecca (Jordan Hildebrandt) Gustafson; son Douglas (Carrie) Hazelwood and children Emma, Grace and Daniel; and son Rodney (Cindy) Hazelwood and Rod’s children Sarra and Michael. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Irene Brown, Jody Hazelwood and Vilda Laing, as well as the many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours with whom she remained in contact through to her last days. The care provided by Home Care, the 5th Floor staff at Victoria Hospital, Dr. Gordon Surkan, and Dr. Metro Surkan before him, is greatly appreciated by the family. Services will be held Friday October 26, 2 p.m., at Gray’s Funeral Chapel. Donations may be made to the Colleston Cemetery Co-operative, Prince Albert, RURAL ROUTE #1
PRINCE ALBERT, SK, S6V 5P8
