It is with great sadness the family of Marian (Smith) MacDonald 75 announce her passing on October 30, 2018 in Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sydney on July 31, 1943 she was the daughter of the late Mary E (MacLeod) Smith and Arthur F. Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Clifford; daughters, Darlene (Gerald) Trish (Mike) and Lorraine (Joe); grandchildren, Ceilidh, Bhreagh, Fraser and Julian.
Marian moved to Baddeck as a young girl with her parents and except for a brief move to Ontario she lived her life in Baddeck. Marian worked for both the county and the province earning the Long Service Award for her 36 years of public service. Although she loved her job Marian’s true love was her family. Her unconditional love for her husband, children and grandchildren was the greatest gift she gave us.
She was always there to support, encourage, protect and catch us if necessary. Her love meant none of us would ever feel alone and although we will forever miss her we know she is still with us.
We would like to say a special thank you to friends, Patsy Cantwell, Pat Ryanand and Norma Fletcher who stayed by her bedside during her time in hospital. Also, to Amanda Morrison for the care and kindness she has shown our family. To Dr’s Genge and Ritter as well as the nursing staff of VCMH thank you for your compassion and caring.
Cremation has taken place, under the care and direction of MacAskill Funeral Home Baddeck NS.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov 5, 2018 at Greenwood United Church. Officiating will be Rev. Mary Jo Harrison.
Family flowers only, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to VCMH or The Salvation Army.
Immediately following the funeral there will be a reception in the basement of the church.
