We regret to announce the passing of Doreen Theresa Latwaitis, on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on April 27, 1927, Doreen was the daughter of the late Rosario and Secondina DiPersio.
Doreen was a member of St. Pius X Parish. She was a fun and outgoing person who enjoyed golfing, curling, playing cards, singing and dancing. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Sydney Mines Curling Club; past president of the Seaview Golf Club; member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Ladies Auxiliary, Sydney Mines; board member of the Miner’s Memorial Manor and vice president of Ladies Auxiliary; member of the Memory Lane Fun Band; member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Harbour View Hospital and a member of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club.
Doreen is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Steve) Gillis, Moncton, and Linda Davies, Moncton; brother, Bruno (Rose) DiPersio; sisters, Ida Lyle and Sister Anne DiPersio; grandsons, Scott (Christa) and Michael Gillis; granddaughters, Bhreagh and Erin Davies; great-granddaughter, Isabel Gillis; sisters-in-law, Violet DiPersio and Bunny DiPersio, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Doreen was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John; son, David; sister, Mary Latwaitis and brothers, Merino DiPersio, Hank DiPersio, Patrick DiPersio and Hector DiPersio.
In respect of her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, Main Street, Sydney Mines, on Wednesday November 14, 2018, at 10 a.m. with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception will be held in Sydney Mines Pensioner's Hall, following the service.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Carol MacLean and the staff of the Miner’s Memorial Manor for their excellent care, dedication and support for both Doreen and her family. We would also like to thank Dr. Kohlsmith and the staff of Palliative Care 4 West at Northside General Hospital for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doreen’s memory may be made to the Miner’s Memorial Manor.
