Patrick Brady 'Buddy' Nearing

“Buddy” Patrick Brady Nearing, 73, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, November 22, 2018.
Buddy was the son of the late John Charles and Mary Patricia (Livingstone) Nearing.
He was predeceased by his sister, Sandra and brother-in-law, James Routledge.
Survived by his brother, Gordon (Patsy); sister, Nancy Routledge; brother-in-law, John Rafferty; nieces, Sandra (Gerald) Aucoin, Lee (Brian) Rampersad, Kelly (Greg) Thompson, Lynn (Jesse) Rafferty; nephews, Stephen Nearing, George (Jaime) Howie, Mark (Jennifer) Rafferty, JD Routledge; his special grand-niece, Robyn Aucoin; his life-long friend, Billy Delaney; and a host of much-loved grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and friends.
Buddy was a life-long, devout Catholic beginning in childhood at Saint Anne’s Parish, Glace Bay. Buddy was known to many as a musician. He played guitar in numerous bands, beginning in his teenage years playing in the Gib Whitney Orchestra with his father. Buddy never lost his love of playing and was an active musician up until the time of his passing. Currently playing with the Rock-it band.
Buddy was employed for nearly thirty years by DEVCO, working at numerous locations throughout Cape Breton. After retirement, Buddy worked as a school crossing guard for several years.
Buddy loved life, and he lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed several hobbies, including (and especially) doting on his car and collecting his “funny money.”
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
The funeral will take place on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Parish, Glace Bay.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Palliative Care Unit and the ICU, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and also the wonderful ICU staff at the Halifax Infirmary. The compassion of these staff members did not go unnoticed and unappreciated by Buddy’s family.
