Frederick "Boyd" Donald

Frederick "Boyd" Donald

Age 70 of Halifax. We are heartbroken to announce the unexpected passing of our dear father, beloved husband and adoring grandfather on December 6, 2018. Born on January 25, 1948 in Sea View, PEI, he was the son of the late Muriel (Toombs) and William C. Donald. Growing up on a farm taught Boyd about working hard and helped him develop a strong work ethic which he would carry with him throughout his long career at MT&T as a Wireless Technical Support Specialist Cellular-Octel. Boyd retired after 35 years of service and then went on to do contract work with Nortel for an additional 8 years. Cellular work allowed Boyd to travel all over Canada and the USA. He took great pride in his work and the places he visited. When Boyd completed his contract work he still wasn’t ready to be a full-time retiree, so he worked at Enterprise for an additional 7 years. This job was a happy one for Boyd as it allowed him to do two of his favorite things; drive and talk to people. Boyd loved his family and was proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He would brag to all who would listen. Boyd is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Anne (Campbell), his devoted daughters Jennifer (Robert) MacDonald, Jill Donald (Jeff Backman) and his adoring grandchildren Madison, Matthew and Jake MacDonald. “Rest easy Grampy.”, his sister Enid MacLeod (Rev. Clair) and sister and brothers-in-law Mary Bishop (Vernon), Don Lawless, Dorothy Heaton (Roger), Sharon Drake (Colin), Clive Campbell, Brian Campbell, Therese Marsh (Ted) and Joan Paynter and numerous nieces and nephews. Uncle Boyd loved them all. In addition to his parents, Boyd was predeceased by his brother George and sisters-in-law Lil Donald and Noreen Lawless, nephews Adam Cole and Barry MacLeod and niece Wendy Donald. Last fall, dialysis became a part of Boyd’s life and he said that even though he ended up on dialysis he couldn’t have picked a nicer group of people to share the experience with. He and Anne looked forward to seeing the gang every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night. Special thanks to Dr. Eddy Kinley, the VG Dialysis team, the VON, the EHS personnel who attended to Boyd. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 2:00pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax, reception will be held immediately after the service. Burial will take place at a later date in Indian River, PEI, where Boyd will be laid to rest on his beloved Island. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Boyd to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
