James Clark Anderson

James Clark Anderson

Passed on: December 19th, 2018

We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of James ‘Jimmy’ Anderson, dearly beloved husband, cherished cousin, and devoted friend. James was the only child of Herbert Anderson and Annie Anderson (nee Crowdis). Jimmy died suddenly of cardiac arrest on December 19, 2018 at the age of 70, at his Nyanza home with his dear wife, Mona, at his side. His was a quiet and peaceful passing, for which we are most grateful.
Jimmy, as he was known to nearly everyone, was a member of St. Mark’s Lodge #35, Sail Canada, Windsurfing Canada, The Toronto Hydroplane and Sailing Club, and the Bras d’Or Yacht Club. He was also an active member of the Baddeck Feral Cat Rescue Society.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Mona Knight; his cousins, Donald George Anderson (Heather), Shelly Margaret Anderson (Stuart MacDonald), George MacRitchie, Evelyn MacDonald (nee MacRitchie) and Peggy Ryan (nee Anderson).
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Annie Anderson; his cousins, Wayne Joseph Hutchison, Charles Clifford Anderson and Betty Anderson.
Jimmy’s formative years were spent at Baddeck Academy where he made many lifelong friends and with whom he shared countless adventures with cars and motorcycles and snowmobiles. His working career took him from Maritime Tel to Northern Tel and finally to Bell Canada where he worked as a technician in Operations with microwave and fibre optic networks. His work took him all across Canada as far north as Resolute Bay.
Through all his life one common thread prevailed, Jimmy’s love of the water - whether diving, windsurfing, swimming or sailing, or admiring the view from his home above beautiful Nyanza Bay – it was part of his very being. Jimmy was awarded the nickname of Jimmy The Boat Boy back when he was still a teenager driving the island ferry to and from Kidston Island. It was a nickname that stuck and he has cherished that name all through his life and still uses it as his email address.
Life on the water was a passion shared with his best friend and wife, Mona, and together they built endless happy memories as live-aboards, sailors, racers and crewmen on other boats. They were both involved for many years in organized sailing in Ontario and Cape Breton.
Those who knew Jimmy well, knew of his competitive spirit. Jimmy loved to win as evidenced by his many sailing trophies, among which are Canadian Champion and Masters Champion. His fellow competitors knew Jimmy raced to win but also knew him to be an honourable rival. He was a gifted sailor and had the respect of his peers on and off the water. He was a selfless, kind, soft-spoken man who was a true friend to old and young people alike.
His most recent efforts have been to aid the Baddeck Feral Cat Rescue Society, caring for cats, trapping, transporting, getting proper medical care and it was his great pleasure to work with a group of fine people here in Baddeck. There was always room for one more cat at home. God Bless you, Jimmy. May you rest in Peace.
Jimmy has been cremated with a private gathering of the family only. An open gathering to celebrate Jimmy’s life will take place at a later date and everyone is welcome to join us. An Announcement will be posted giving the date, time and place as soon as arrangements are complete.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Baddeck Feral Cat Society or to the Junior Sailing Program at the Bras d’Or Yacht Club. You can send donations to Jim Anderson, Box 32, Baddeck, NS B0E 1B0. Mona will make sure they will be used as you would wish.
Under the care and direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, NS.
