DOUCETTE, Loretta Anne – age 95, Yarmouth. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mom on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at home. Born October 23, 1923 in Bell Neck, she was a daughter of the late Avite and Modeste (Melanson) Dulong. Loretta had worked at the cotton mill as well as at R.H. Davis & Co. Ltd., both in Yarmouth, after which she worked in the housekeeping department at Sunset Terrace. Her compassionate nature made her a perfect fit for working at the home, a job she truly enjoyed. In her younger years, Loretta enjoyed bowling and playing Pokono and more recently she enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, doing needlework and telling stories about her experiences in life. She was also a member of the Conservative Party for many years. Her true passion however, was her family, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving children, Bill (Lorraine) Doucette, Penoka, AB; Jim (Lynn) Doucette, Chebogue; Ronald (Lorna) Doucette, Port Maitland; Brenda Cameron (Dan Rose), Yarmouth; 22 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Vince) Vidoni, Dayton, OH as well as many nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Joseph Doucette; a son in infancy; a daughter, Marilyn Switzer; brothers, Edgar, Bernie, Joe, Wilfred; sisters, Dorothy, Mary, Mabel, Edna, Margaret. In accordance with her wishes, there was no visitation. A funeral service took place at 1 p.m., Friday, December 28 at St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Deacon Bruce Hubbard officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Donations in memory of Loretta may be made to the Tri-County Site of the VON, the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Red Cross. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Riley and Dr. Tom Muise, as well as Robin Surette, the VON and Homecare for the care and compassion they showed Loretta and her family.
