Passed peacefully away at the age of 68 in the presence of her family on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at the L.A. Miller Centre after a two-year battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents Ralph and Pauline (Madden) Harris. Leaving to mourn with wonderfully happy memories her loving husband of 46 years Edward (Ted), son Doug (Daisy), sisters Moira (Geoff Smith), Mary (John Croke), sisters-in-law Patricia (Jim Hayward), Alda (John Dunne), brother-in-law Paul (Agatha, deceased). Also leaving to mourn lifelong friend Cathy (Walsh) Ryan as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Sheila was a lifelong student with a passion for learning. Her academic achievements include a BA, BEd, BSc, MA and a PHd in the History of Medicine. She received a large number of awards, scholarships and fellowships from various universities. She was a Harvard University Researcher. Her professional career as a writer/researcher/consultant mostly with Health Canada, lay primarily in the fields of HIV/AIDS research, aboriginal health, breast cancer, diabetes, tuberculosis and salt reduction. Sheila was an avid traveller who saw much of the world, however she was most comfortable in her own living room with her cats and her books. Special thanks to Dawn Clarke her health care nurse, Dr. Fardy, Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Sanja Murthy her family doctor and all the staff at the Palliative Care Unit. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Caul’s Funeral Home on 84 LeMarchant Rd. No funeral service will take place. There will be a gathering at her home of family and close friends at a date to be determined. Flowers are gratefully accepted or a donation may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
