Effie Florence Brophy (nee Payne)

Effie Florence Brophy (nee Payne)

Born: June 23rd, 1939

Passed on: December 29th, 2018

We are in disbelief and feel such heartache with the passing of our beloved mom, Effie Florence Brophy (nee Payne), who passed away on Saturday, December 29th, 2018, at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, NL, in her 79th year. We are the family that we are today, thanks to our Mom. She was a hard worker and instilled her values upon us. With a comical streak about her, she brought a constant supply of love and laughter. To her many friends and family, her sense of humour and loyalty made her like no other. All of us will forever cherish and deeply miss our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend that she was to us all. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Marlene (Danny), Leander (Charlene), Geraldine (Ray), Melita (Ralph), Leslie (Paula), Byron (Jackie), and Nell (Dana); her grandchildren: Christopher, Candice (Ian), Justin (Susan), Jason, Demetri, Matthew, Katelyn, Jason, Jennifer, Jennifer, Brandon (Jessica), and Dylan; her great-grandchildren: Natalie, Daniel, Wyatt, Caiden, and Cameron who spent so much time with his Nan; brother Kevin Payne (Rowena), and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends, as well as her ACW family. Effie was predeceased by her husband Stedman Brophy on May 7th, 2018, her parents James and Fanny Payne, her brothers: Willie Payne, Rendell Payne (Dora), Max Payne (Ellen), and Edgar Payne (Eileen); her sisters: Sadie Powell (Clayton), Blanche Brown (Joe), Rachel Gushue (Ed), Mary Power (Matt), and Rhoda Payne; parents-in-law: Stedman and Rose Brophy, sisters-in-law: Rosetta Robinson, Freda Biggin, Dora Payne, and Faith Sheppard. Special thanks to caregivers Elaine Perry and Rosemary House, paramedics Denny Jewer and Amy Oakley, as well as the staff and Doctors at W.M.R.Hospital - your care for our mom was greatly appreciated. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association in Effie’s memory. The family will be receiving family and friends at the St. Mary’s The Virgin Anglican Church in Cow Head, NL, on Monday December 31st, 2018 from the hours of 7-9 pm, and continuing on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019, from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm, where also the funeral service will take place from on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019, at 2:00 pm, with Canon Terry Rose officiating with the burial to follow at the family plot of the church cemetery in Cow Head, NL.
