Margaret Rose (Paulette) Weidemann

With sadness we regret to announce the unexpected passing of Margaret Rose, age 75, on December 27, 2018 at St. Marthas Regional Hospital in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, surrounded by loved ones.
Margaret was born in Eskasoni, June 12, 1943 just as the community was established. She liked to tell people she was the first baby born in Eskasoni. Margaret loved and taught children, preparing them for First Communion at Our Lady of Guadeloupe Parish in Macedonia, Ohio, later at St. Clements Parish in Lakewood, Ohio and finally at Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation where her mother had been born. She maintains a special bond and love for the people of the community there.
Margaret also assisted in the creation of and taught a model program designed to prepare Paqtnkek children for entry into the local school system as well years ago.
‘Maggie’ was an avid crafter, producing many unique pieces. She enjoyed many hobbies and loved games of all kinds. She read every day, studying subjects that interested her.
She is predeceased by her mother, Mary Ellen Kendall (Sylliboy) and father, Edward Poulette; husbands, Dougall MacFarlane and Stanley Weidemann; son, Jeffery Tapfer; grandparents, John Denny and Elizabeth Sylliboy (Toney), and Levi and Nancy Poulette, as well as her brothers, John Paulette, Robert Sylliboy (in infancy), Gabriel Sylliboy (in infancy) and Wilbur Lewis; sister, Pauline Lewis; her godparents, Edward Morris and Elizabeth Stevens, and nephew, David Paulette.
Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Susan Anne Tapfer; sons, Steven Tapfer and Thomas Tapfer; grandchildren, Brian Cooper, Joseph Callari, Kevin Szostak, Andrew Szostak, Gabrielle Tapfer, Allen Tapfer and Emma Paul; great-grandsons, Rylan Cooper and Mason Blackburn. She also leaves behind her sisters, Patricia Lewis, Edna Lewis and Marilyn Lewis; brothers, Albert Webb and Russell Lewis; nieces, Dawn Heider (Paulette), Sharon Brinkman, Terri McIntyre, Cindy Webb, Jennifer Webb and Kristie Webb-Duvall; nephew, Matthew Webb, and many cousins, other relatives and extended family including her stepchildren in the US, the Weidemann family and those of the MacFarlane family. She will be deeply missed.
Margaret will be waked at the Gabriel Center in Eskasoni starting on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 7 p.m. with a Funeral Mass being held on Saturday, January 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni, with Fr. Martin MacDougall celebrant. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
