It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved aunt Clara Margaret Beaton, age 93, longtime resident of Leitches Creek, on Monday, December 31, 2018 at the Northside Community Guest Home with family at her side.
Born in Leitches Creek, Clara was the daughter of the late John Dan and Mabel (MacRae) Beaton. Clara taught school briefly before working for the Cape Breton Regional Library for 28 years, including many years on the bookmobile, travelling throughout Cape Breton and Victoria County. Clara loved cats and was an excellent gardener. She was a member of St. Columba United Church, Leitches Creek.
Clara is survived by her nieces and nephews, Debbie (Andy) Feetham, Virginia (Peter) Donovan, Lorna Beaton, Wilson (Anna) Beaton, Bruce (Bernadette) Beaton, Nancy (Michael) Florian, Brenda Beaton and Susan (Rob) MacLellan.
Clara was predeceased by her brothers, Frank (Joan) Beaton and Murray (Louise) Beaton and by her nephews, Leslie and David Beaton.
By request there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, at St. Columba United Church, Leitches Creek, with Mary Quirk officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will take place at Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
