Eleanor Isabel TENNANT

Eleanor Isabel TENNANT

Eleanor Isabel Tennant passed away peacefully at Centennial Villa, Amherst, Nova Scotia, on January 9, 2019 in her 99th year. Eleanor’s great smile love of the cottage and being with family and friends will be very much missed. Music, bridge and walking were an interest until she died.
Hugh was Eleanor’s great love. While working in Sydney NS. He found her, one of the five beautiful Buck sisters. Their marriage lasted almost 50 years and to the end they were very much a team. The cottage at Tignish, which Eleanor and Hugh built, provided many happy times with visits from family and friends swimming daily with neighbors - as Hugh watched from the bank. Eleanor loved to skate and would often tell of the years when her children were young of being tired and going to the rink to skate after they were all in bed. The moment her skates touched the ice and the music was blaring she felt completely revived. Eleanor sang with her sisters growing up and continued at Trinity St. Stephen’s into her 80’s. She played the piano at home and did so at Centennial Villa in the late afternoons. She was the daughter of the late Isabel (Jardine) and Chesley Buck of Sydney, NS. Eleanor is survived by her three children Jane (Terry) Thompson, Isabel (Jack) Kline and Walter (Deborah) Tennant and by her sisters Peggy McAlpine and twin Gracie McMurray. She was loved by her grandson, Jonathan (Terri) Thompson of Vancouver and great grandchildren Piper, Abby and Stuart; granddaughter Sarah Thompson of South Carolina and great grandson Josh; granddaughter Victoria Kline of North Carolina and great grandchildren Jack and Allison and grandson Gordon (Theresa) Kline of Moncton. She is survived by several nieces and nephews with whom she was very close. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Hugh, sisters Marion and Jean. Eleanor will be remembered as a kind and happy lady. We will miss her. The family are grateful to the staff at
the Villa for their care and kindness. Donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to the Cumberland Hospice and Palliative Care Society or Trinity St. Stephens United Church.
Celebration of life will be held at the cottage in Tignish at a later date. There will be no visitation or service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St. Amherst, 902-667-9906. Condolences and sharing of memories may be shared with the family via: www.campbellsamherst.ca or by visiting Campbell’s Facebook page.
