WEINKAUF, Bernadette (Bernie)
January 4, 1952 – January 4, 2019
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our sister, auntie (great/great-great) and friend Bernie Weinkauf. She went peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord in the early hours of her 67th birthday. Heaven has gained another angel and after almost 48 years of living with MS, we are sure she is now using her arms and legs in the way that she always wanted to. She will be playing cards and dancing with her parents Alex and Anna Weinkauf, her brother Leo, her sister Josephine, her brothers-in-law Sylvester, Ted and Ambrose, her sister-in-law Jenny, nephews Wayne, Allan and Dale, and a few nieces and nephews that she will be meeting for the first time. Celebrating from earth are her siblings Tedi, Marcus (Bernie), Hildegarde, Rudy (Marge), Loretta, Marcella (Ray), Hubert, Fred (Linda), Jeannie (James) and brother-in-law Don, 45 nieces and nephews and their families. Born the youngest of a family of 12, Bernadette was raised on a farm between Primate and Denzil. She attended the country church of Grosswerder and took her schooling at Primate, Denzil and St. Angela’s Academy in Prelate. Even though she was diagnosed with MS at the young age of 19, she never complained or was discouraged by her disability but became an advocate for the disabled right to the end. Her strong faith, good sense of humour and positive attitude was an inspiration to all she met and hopefully we are all better people because of her. The family would like to thank all the Home Care Workers that cared for Bernie in Prince Albert where she worked and lived for 37 years, especially her good friend Evelyn Hagley. We also thank the staff at Samaritan Place for the wonderful care they have provided for Bernie in the past 6 years. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Place) with Fr. Darryl Millette as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan Place (375 Cornish Rd. Saskatoon, SK S7T 0P3) or to Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation – directed to MS Research (701 Queen St. Saskatoon, SK S7K 0M7). Arrangements in care of John Schachtel – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200 www.mourningglory.ca
