Dan Thompson

Daniel Chester Thompson, age 88, of Westville passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, January 17, 2019.

Born September 2, 1930, at Skinners Dam, just outside of Westville, he was a son of the late James A. and Robina (Wilson) Thompson.

He attended Westville High School and graduated from Maritime Business College in Halifax in 1948. From 1949-1951 he lived in California where he worked on Hollywood Boulevard. After returning to Nova Scotia he worked at Market Square Motors as a service writer and later with other car dealerships before opening Dan’s Popular Record Bar being known as “Dan The Record Man” in the late 1950's and 60’s. He then worked for Singer Sewing Machine, Thompson and Sutherland’s, and Texaco, before opening his own accounting business, Dan Thompson’s Income Tax in 1975, where he retired from in 2010. He served as councilor for Westville from 1978-1982, he was former Clerk of Session for St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, member of the Eastern Star Lodge, and was Past Master of the Western Star Masonic Lodge. He was a former member of the Westville Business Association, United Commercial Travelers, and the Westville Rotary Club. Anyone who knew Dan knew he was a huge country music fan and very proud to support local classic country and just as proud to call Westville his home.

Dan loved to travel with his family throughout Canada, Scotland and especially his time spent in Lakeland Florida with Loreen for many years. Dan had a very quick dry wit and had many a good story to tell. He was very proud of his two daughters and his five grandchildren for all their accomplishments.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years Loreen (Day); daughters, Danalee Stone (Tim), New Glasgow, Cathy Thompson (Alvin MacKenzie), West River Station; grandchildren, Matthew, Marcus and Michelle Stone, Amber and Emily Thompson; niece Robena Stewart (Rudy), nephew Sandy Clark (Sheila), sister-in-law Erma Chenell; brothers-in-law Merle Day (Marion); Bernard Day (Dora); George Day (Mary); and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Catherine “Kay” Clark , brother-in-law Bob Clark; and two infant sons.

Dan is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Tuesday from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville with Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
