It is with great sadness the family of John Joseph Brophy announces his peaceful passing on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the age of 79 years. John was born, raised and lived his life in the community of Holyrood, NL. He was a passionate outdoorsman who loved nature. John was a man of steadfast integrity and loyalty to his family, profession and community. He extended his selfless support and generosity to all who knew him. He began his professional life with the United States Air Force Fire Hall at Goose Bay in the 1950’s, followed by 46 years of dedicated service with the Golden Eagle Refining Company at Holyrood, Ultramar Canada Ltd. and Valero Energy. Throughout his life he was a devoted member of his community, having served with the Holyrood Volunteer Fire Department, Holyrood Town Council, Holy Cross Parish Council and the Board of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. Predeceased by his parents Thomas Brophy and Bridget (Harding), sisters Barbara Ann, Lillian (Howard), Bernice (Woodford) and brother Robert. John is survived by his beloved wife Mary (Woodford) of 49 years, son John (Susan), daughters Terri (Rob) and Bridget (Derek), grandchildren Thomas, Jack and Andrew, sisters Marie (Adams), Ann (King) and Helen, brothers Tom, Leonard and George, nine nieces and nephews and extended family members. The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Matthew Grenning, Dr. Susan Dalton, the many professionals of the Health Sciences Centre, St. Patrick’s Mercy Home and special caregivers Heather White and Corinne Dohey. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will be on Monday, January 21st from 7-9 PM and Tuesday, January 22nd from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will take place at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 23rd at Holy Cross Church, Holyrood. Flowers gratefully accepted or a donation in John’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The special years will not return,
