Dr. Eric Dewitt ROSS

February 24, 1929 – January 15, 2019. It is with sadness that we must announce the passing of Eric Ross, who passed away at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the age of 89. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was born on February 24, 1929 in Moncton, N.B., and was the son of the late David Dewitt Ross and Clara Maisie (Wells).
Eric was a graduate of Moncton High School and went on to be further educated at UNB and the University of Edinburgh. He held teaching positions at the University of Victoria, Bishop’s University, Université Laval and was hired at Mount Allison University in 1972 to establish the first Geography Program at a Maritime University. Eric was a professor at Mount Allison University until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed playing the bagpipes, loved the outdoors and was always involved in different activities. Eric travelled extensively throughout his life and he was the author of three history books. Eric will be lovingly remembered by his nephew, Tim (Karen) Iler of Pugwash, N.S.; his niece, Wendy Iler of Ottawa, Ont., as well as by his cousin, Faye Ripley of Sackville, N.B. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brother, Douglas Ross, as well as by his sister, Evelyn Iler. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). In keeping with Eric’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. The burial will take place in the spring in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens in Moncton, N.B. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eric may be made to the Dr. Eric Ross Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
