We, the family of John Archie Leahy are sorry to announce his passing at An Cala Palliative Care Unit, CBRH after a lengthy illness on January 23, 2019.
“Archie” was born to Archie and Alice (Lahey) Leahy on December 16, 1931 in Louisbourg, Cape Breton. Archie started his career away from home working on Lake Boats.
Returning to Cape Breton he married his wife of 56 years, Marguerite May LeBlanc (Margaret) and settled in Louisbourg, his family home.
After a long career of being an owner/operator for C.B. Dairy Co-Op. He and Margaret built and operated the Fleur de lis Motor Inn in Louisbourg before they retired to the Mira River. Archie was not one to slow down and continued to work as a lobster fisherman.
Archie enjoyed diving, travelling with Margaret and spending winters in Florida. He could always be counted on to take anyone for a ride on the Mira or his boat the Amy Lynn or to take out his guitar to play a tune with all his bandmates.
Archie is survived by his children, Loretta (Philip) Magee, Catalone, Gary (Rose), Sydney, Albert (Darlene), Louisbourg; as well as grandchildren, Charity, Shaun, Melissa, Hayden, Jessica and Sean, Simon and Alyssa and five great-grandchildren.
Brother is survived by sisters, Dorothy (late Percy) Tutty and Dianna (Clark) MacKinnon as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with his parents, he is predeceased by wife, Margaret; sister, Mary Leahy; as well as all of Margaret’s immediate family (Cheticamp).
The family would like to thank Dr. Buhariwalla, Dr. Burns and Dr. Aboud (An Cala Palliative Care) and the ladies from Country Homemakers and VON, who were all a huge support during his illness.
Visitation for Archie will take place from 11-1 p.m., today January 26, 2019 at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney NS. Funeral service to take place immediately following, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Evo DiPierro to officiate.
