The death occurred peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, P.E.I. on Friday, January 25th, 2019 of the Honorable George R. McMahon of Summerside, P.E.I., in his 90th year. George was born in Kensington to the late Peter and Emma (nee MacKay) McMahon. McMahon was educated at St. Dunstan’s and Dalhousie University. He was elected as MLA from 1976 until he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island in 1987, after which he pursued his latest career as an illustrious golfer. Beloved husband of Kaye (nee Nelson) McMahon and loving father to Lorraine McMahon - Wanvig (Brent), Calgary, AB., Marie McMahon-Young (Jim), Stratford, P.E.I., Marshall, Charlottetown, Patrick (Maria), Summerside, his stepchildren Joe (Joanna) Guarini, Oshawa, ON., and Troy Caseley, Toronto, ON. Also, lovingly remembered by his 7 grandchildren Ben and Adam (Nicole) Wanvig, B.J. (Emily) Young, Liam McMahon, Emma and Abby McMahon, Matteo Guarini, his 2 great- grandchildren Archer and Berkley Wanvig. Survived by his sisters Lorraine McMahon, Genevieve Strnad, Maisie Waddell, Emma Delaney, sister-in-law Doreen McMahon and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his brother Jim McMahon, brothers-in-law Al Strnad, Roger Waddell and Justin Delaney. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Wednesday, January 29th, then to St. Paul’s Church for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery, Indian River at a later date. Memorial donations in George’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
