It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn Nora Baker age 90 of Amherst announce her peaceful passing at Gables Lodge on Sunday January 27th, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Born September 10th, 1928, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Thomas and Olive (Weeks) Pettigrew. Evelyn was a leader of 4-H for 33 years as well as a long-time member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, quilting and embroidery. She will be fondly remembered by her children, Bliss Jr. (Judy), Gerald (Debbie), Ronnie (Linda), Ray (Sandra), Betty (Robert) Bryan, John (Susan) and Roger (Susan) all of Amherst and Sharon (Calvin) Siddall of Southampton, NS; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Evelyn was predeceased her husband, Bliss; sisters, Hazel, Gladys, Dorothy, Blanche, Ethel, and Hilda; four brothers, Cecil, Roland, Lester, Corey and Ray; great granddaughter, Amanda Mae. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906. Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the First Baptist Church, Amherst NS, with Dr. Rev. Dan Green and Rev. Byron Corkum officiating. Reception to follow in the Christie room. Interment will take place at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery.
