It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Simon Joseph Arsenault in his 81st year on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital. Simon Joseph was born in Margaree and moved to Ingonish when he was 2 years old.
Simon Joseph is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Sarah; sons, Very Rev. Joseph, Kansas City, Dr. Andrew & his wife, Dr Heidi King, Saint John; grandchildren, Simon & Siena; sisters, Sr. Catherine, Antigonish, Delia (Paul) Campbell, Lower Sackville, Helen (Joe) Buckingham, St. John’s and sister-in-law, Theresa Arsenault, Sydney River; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Simon Peter and Justine (LeBlanc); his precious daughter, Nadine; sister, Anna Thurbide, and brothers, Rev. George and Andrew.
Having graduated from St. Francis Xavier University, he entered into the teaching profession, where he taught at Ingonish Beach Consolidated School. His dedication to teaching did not prevent him from spending time doing the things he loved which included spending time with family, golfing, skiing, fishing, working in the woods, and gardening to name just a few.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 12 noon until the funeral at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Ingonish Beach. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. with his son presiding. Burial will take place in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North of Smokey Hospice Palliative Care Society, St. Peter’s Parish graveyard fund, or to the donor’s choice.
