Alan Hector MacLean

Born: January 19th, 1954

Passed on: February 3rd, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a wonderful husband, son and brother, Alan Hector MacLean on Sunday, February 3, 2019.
Alan was born January 19, 1954 to Jack and Helen (Marmulak) MacLean.
Alan grew up in Whitney Pier with special friends, Jackie MacDonald, Bob Rose, the late Stan Orychock, and the late Stan Ardelli.
Alan had a love for cooking that began at an early age. He later obtained a certificate of cooking from NSIT as well as, obtaining Ship’s Cook papers. He served as cook for Parks Canada, Canadian Coast Guard Vessels and Seismic Ships. His career took him from the Arctic Circle to the Panama Canal, across Canada, Africa and Asia and points in between. He retired from his cooking career in 2015 and continued working as a Commissionaire at the Fortress of Louisbourg. During an onshore leave from the Seismic ship he met and wooed Leta with his humour and quick wit; Alan kept her laughing for over 33 years.
Alan formed friendships quickly as he loved meeting and talking to people who he always remembered, never forgetting a face.
Alan loved to garden and growing his own vegetables; fishing and telling stories of his travel adventures to anyone who would listen.
He is survived by his wife, Leta Boutilier; his mother, Helen, Sydney; sister, Madeline, Sydney; brothers, John Aubrey (Cathy), Ottawa, Joseph, Calgary; nephews, John Alan, Christian; nieces, Alena, Deven and Katie and mother-in-law, Evelyn Boutilier.
He was predeceased by his father, John ‘Jack’; sister, Anne Marie (in infancy) and father-in-law, Fabian Boutilier.
Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Wednesday, February 6 from 2-4 &7 -9 p.m.
