It is with profound sadness and much love that we say goodbye to Gail Ryan who passed away peacefully on February 4, 2019 at the age of 74 after a short illness.
Gail was born November 19, 1944 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia and raised in Glace Bay where she graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1966.
Her nursing career took her from Halifax, NS to Broughton Island, Nunavut and concluded with 26 years’ service at Alberta Hospital Edmonton until her retirement in 2010. She cared deeply about all of her patients.
Gail was predeceased by her parents, Terry and Agatha Ryan and her special grandmother, Polly Kennedy, all of Glace Bay, NS. She will be fondly remembered by her sister, Kathleen Dekouchay of Truro, NS; her brother, Dr. Michael T. Ryan of Sydney, NS; her niece and nephews; loving companion, Virginia and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home, 16204 Fort Rd. NW, Edmonton, AB
Sincere gratitude is extended to Edmonton Fire Hall No. 1 (P1), EMS Edmonton, the University of Alberta Hospital Neurosurgical ICU nursing and respiratory staff and to Dr. Au and Dr. David Zygun.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Edmonton Hope Mission in honor of Gail’s special interest in Edmonton’s homeless and vulnerable.
