SMITH, Evelyn Marie – We the family are very saddened by the loss of a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring grandmother and great grandmother, a considerate sister, a wonderful aunt, and a loyal friend. She filled our lives with love and encouragement. Evelyn Marie Smith, age 93, passed away peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on February 6th, 2019 with family by her side, after a brief illness. Born on July 23rd, 1925 to Louise and Louie Burke of Sluice Point, she was the tenth child to be born in a family of twelve. Evelyn was a member of the Lionettes, volunteered at the Villa St. Joseph, loved playing bingo at the Knights of Columbus, doing crossword puzzles, gardening and caring for her family that she loved dearly. She was a faithful member of St. Ambrose Cathedral Parish Yarmouth. She is survived be her five sons, Larry (Joanne) Burke of Arcadia, Laurie (Louise) Smith of Arcadia , Terry, Robert and Randy Smith all of Yarmouth and a loving brother Simon Burke of Yarmouth. Also, Alan Burke whom she thought of as a very dear family member and four grand children, Stephanie (Dwayne) Surette, Katelyn, Emily and Jonathan and three great grandchildren, Chelsea, Sophie and Anthony and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Louise and Louie Burke, her husband Malcolm Smith, the love of her life and six sisters, Jeanette (Ambrose) Surette, Constance (Isaac) Bourque, Beatrice (Nelson) Melanson, Leona (Willard) Hubbard, Irene (Henry) LeBlanc, Jessie (Wilfred) Amirault and four brothers, Charles, Richard, Robert and Larion in infancy and also a sister in-law Melba Burke. There was no visitation at her request. Funeral mass was held at St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, on Tuesday February 12th, 2019 at 2 p.m., Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. A reception followed the funeral in the Jubilee Room at St. Ambrose. Family flowers welcome, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation, or charity of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to H.M.
