MELANSON, Ulysses John - age 91 of Springhaven died peacefully February 8, 2019 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born July 28, 1927 in Springhaven to Joseph and Mary Rose (Doucette) Melanson. Ulysses began his working life at a young age and was known as a hard worker. Whatever he did; he did well. He was a carpenter by trade but he often told stories of his many adventures over the years working at various jobs over the course of his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and in years past served on the board of the Club des Audacieux in Quinan as well as volunteer work for the Conservative party for many years. After retirement he enjoyed playing pool and cards, reading and spending time in the woods. He loved hunting and berry picking and making delicious pies. He kept very busy for as long as his body allowed. Ulysses is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Edna (Doucette), his six children, Paul (Marjory) Melanson, Gardeners Mill, Susan (Michael) Melanson, Yarmouth, Joanne (Wayne) Cobbett, Gavelton, Gary (Mary) Melanson, Belleville, Kevin (Patsy) Melanson, Springhaven and Lisa (Fraser) Challoner, Deerfield. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Agnes (Sid) Dixon, Paris ON, Edith Tremblay, Tusket NS and Joyce Comeau, Meteghan NS. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Mary Rose; brothers, Gilbert and Gustave and sisters, Evelyn, Margaret and Georgina and a son, Ronald at birth. Visitation took place at Huskilson's Funeral Home, 29 Albert St. Yarmouth from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12 with family service and prayers at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass was Wednesday, February 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Ste. Agnes Church in Quinan, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiated. Reception followed at Club des Audacieux, Quinan. Family flowers only. Donations in memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
