The death occurred peacefully at the Garden Home on Saturday, February 16, 2019 of Verna Birdella (Mellish) MacDonald, wife of the late W. Blair MacDonald and dear mother of Douglas (Evelyn), Scott (Cathy), Heather (David) Holdway and Elizabeth. She is lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Lloyd S. MacDonald of Stratford and numerous nieces and nephews. Verna was predeceased by her parents Lester B. and Beatrice (Gay) Mellish, brothers Harold and Milton and sisters Helen Maloney and Pearl Lumsden. Born in Montague on February 11, 1922, she came to Charlottetown in 1942 to train as a nurse, graduating in 1944 as an R.N. Verna was an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Margaret MacDougall WMS of Zion Presbyterian Church. Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel from where the service will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Mermaid Cemetery.
