It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather (Poppy), brother, uncle, son and friend, Donald Wilson Campbell, 54, on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at the Northside General Hospital, in the arms of his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on February 26, 1964, Donald was the son of Robert and Helen (Muir) Campbell.
Donald has been involved with the Sydney Mines Fire Department for the past 25 years. He was treasurer of the John J. Nugent Fireman’s Center and was known for serving his community. Donald has been with the County Homemakers in Sydney for the better part of 12 years. In the past, Donald has worked at the Haley Street Adult Services Center as well as volunteering in coaching minor hockey. He adored his grandchildren and lived for his family.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Karen (Rogers) Campbell, who was always by his side; his devoted children, Ryan (Terri Lynn), North Sydney, Samantha (Aaron), and Shelley (Brandon), both of Sydney Mines. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren, Bridget, Myla and Asher, who were the light of his life; parents, Robert and Helen Campbell; brothers, Ward (Lorraine), Sydney Mines, and John (Cindy), New Brunswick; sister, Maureen (Michael), Ottawa, as well as his many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews; mother-in-law, Bessie Rogers, and his beloved, dog Sadie.
Donald was predeceased by his brother, Stephen, and his father-in-law, Gordon Rogers.
His family would like to thank the 5th Floor Nurses at Northside General Hospital, Dr. Ignacio, Dr. Poulos, Palliative Care, and the staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
Visitation for Donald Campbell will take place today (Thursday) February 21, 2019, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
A celebration of his life will take place Friday, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen St., Sydney Mines, with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating.
A reception will be held in the John J. Nugent Firemen’s Center, after the service. Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center, or a charity of choice.
