Father Angus Dan Campbell
We regret to announce the death of Father A.D. Campbell on February 21, 2019, which took place at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Sydney.
Born April 12, 1925, in Inverness, Cape Breton, Father A.D. attended Holy Family School in Inverness and ST. F.X. University, graduating in 1951. He Studied at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax and was ordained a Catholic Priest in 1957 at St. Ninian Cathedral in Antigonish. After serving a year at St. Mary’s Basilica Halifax, he served in a variety of parishes in the Diocese of Antigonish, including Stella Maris in Pictou, St. Joseph’s in North Sydney, St. Anthony’s in Glace Bay, St Patrick’s in Lochaber, St. Mary’s in Port Morien, Immaculate Conception in Bridgeport, and St. Stephen’s in Florence.
Because he had a delayed vocation and had to struggle academically to achieve his goals, Father A.D. had a more mature appreciation of his vocation. He was known to express his own strong and definite ideas but lived his priestly vocation and always served his God faithfully. He was very devoted to the poor and afflicted in the areas he served. He worked with the St. Vincent de Paul Society for twenty years. He loved sports and was a strong believer in keeping physically fit. He retired to Parkland Sydney and more recently to Harbourstone, where he continued to walk around the whole complex as recently as last summer.
He is survived by sisters, Elizabeth, Waltham, MA and Marguerite, Inverness, and by brothers, Francis on Vancouver Island, and Douglas Toronto. He was predeceased by brother, Joseph in Halifax.
Visitation for Father A.D. Campbell will be held on Monday, (Today) February 25, 2019, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. With a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines on Tuesday February 26, 2019, at 11 a.m.
