John Edward MacLean John Edward MacLean

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Edward MacLean, of Sydney River, on Friday, February 22, 2019. Born December 22, 1952, he was the only son of the late Allan and Mary (Stone) MacLean, of the Shipyard area, Sydney. John began his career as an electrician and in the early 1980s, started working for Cape Breton Beverages, where he was part of a truly dedicated team. At the time of his death he was Vice President of Operations, a position he held for many years.
He and Beth enjoyed many trips with friends, including Montreal to watch his beloved Montreal Canadiens. He was also a proud supporter of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. John combined two of his favorite hobbies, golfing and travel, at the annual father/son golf tournament in Florida.
John was known for his quick wit, sense of humour, and his kind and compassionate spirit. An early riser, he was often up before sunrise, spending morning coffee times with his lifelong friends, Cyril MacDonald and Donnie Sives. He gave freely of his time and talents and offered advice and guidance to those who sought it. He loved his family and friends dearly and made a lasting impression on those who were fortunate to know him. He was the pillar of his family and he will be missed beyond measure.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 43 years, Beth (Boutilier); sons, Sean (Dawn) Grand Prairie, Alberta; Ian (Danielle), East Bay; and daughter, Caitlin (Stephen Hill),Point Edward; sisters, Ann (Bill) MacQueen, Barb (Ron) Neville, Brenda (Bernie) Hanratty, Arlene (Gordie) Parsons all of Coxheath, Rosemary (David) MacLellan, Halifax; brother-in-law, Robert Rafuse; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Eric) Dawson, and Gail Gallagher; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was a loving Grampie, to Madison, Ethan, Amiah, Matthew, Quinn, Luke and Hudson. He took great pride in all of his grandchildren and could often be seen accompanied by his best buddy, Hudson.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by sister, Donna Rafuse, brother-in-law, Donnie Hartigan, nephew, John Christopher Neville, and mother and father-in-law, Cliff and Flora Boutilier.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at 11 a.m., with Father Patrick O’Neill presiding.
