Josephine MacKenzie

Catherine Josephine (Rankin) (MacLennan) MacKenzie, loving wife of the late Laurie MacKenzie, passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on February 26th , 2019, surrounded by her beautiful family. Born in Pictou Nov 28th, 1954, she was a beloved daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (MacIsaac) Rankin formerly of Cape Breton. Josephine was a unique and caring lady who had a heart of gold, always willing to help whenever she could. Family was everything. Jose was a loving mother and grandmother. Her children, Joelene, Lauren and Rankin were her pride and joy. She was so very proud of the beautiful people they became, so very loving and caring to their Mom. Her grandchildren, Evan and Brenna, were her “Special Blessings in Life.” They put a smile on her face and such joy in her heart! Jose also possessed real strength of character. She was a true example of “No matter how far down I go – a part of me says, Get back up!” Her resilience throughout her life and illness was inspirational to us all! Her quick wit was contagious and her laughter infectious, a natural talent that turned sadness into a warm lasting experience. A good cup of tea and her humour set the tone for a wonderful day! Josephine’s fur baby, Lola, who had recently passed, helped her and inspired her through difficult days. They are now reunited. Jose is survived by daughters, Joelene (MacLennan) Lawson (Doug), New Lowell, ON; Lauren MacKenzie (Jenna), Bridgewater; Son, Rankin (Walter), New Glasgow; sisters, Christina Doran (Gerry), Elliot Lake, ON; Charlene Lahti, Truro; Lillian (Rankin) MacLeod, Trenton; Viola LaBrie (John), Etobicoke, ON; Irene MacKenzie (Gary), Trenton; Barbara White (Ralph), Belleville, ON. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and extended family in Edmonton and Cape Breton. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by sister, Estelle Garvey (Jim) and brother, Michael Joseph Rankin. We the family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the VON, Intensive Care Unit Nurses and Doctors at the Aberdeen Hospital. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8PM Friday, in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 11AM, Saturday in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church with Father Charles Cameron officiating. Burial will be in the Stella Maris Cemetery at a later date. Reception will follow the service in the Stella Maris Church Hall. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation or the Diabetes Association. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
