After a long battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John William Loughlin, 76, of Shediac and formerly of Grand-Barachois at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont UHC in Moncton with his wife by his side. Born in St. John’s, NL, he was the son of the late John and Margorie (Dinn) Loughlin of Tors Cove, NL. While living in Labrador City for 25 years, he was an avid volunteer in many different organizations. He passionately served in the Lions Club of Labrador, NL, Mount Pearl, NL and in Shediac, NB for 45 years where he took on various responsibilities such as president, vice-president and zone chairman. He was awarded a Lifetime Membership by the Lions International. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 49 years, Jeannita (Léger); his sister, Patricia Mennie of St. John’s, NL; two sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Loughlin of Milton, ON and Alida Murray of Grand-Barachois; two brothers-in-law, Mathieu Léger of Moncton and Médard (Marguerite) Léger of Grand-Barachois, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Donald and his twin sister, Mary. A special thank-you to doctors, nurses and staff at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC, the extra-mural staff for the care he received and to the family and friends for their support. In memory of John, a contribution to the CHU Dumont Foundation (oncology) or donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
