It is with sadness that the family of Mary Catherine Shepard announce her passing at Hospice House in Fredericton on March 10, 2019 just two weeks shy of her 108th birthday.
Mary was born in Broughton, Nova Scotia and was the daughter of the late Allan and Catherine Mac Aulay.
Mary was a kind lady with a beautiful smile and a huge heart. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She enjoyed company, many family and friends spent time sitting around her kitchen table talking and laughing. The kettle was always on and everyone knew she would have something special to go with that hot cup of tea.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert Shepard (Bob); daughter, Roberta Mac Gillivary (Elmer); son, Allan Shepard (special daughter-in-law, Mildred); grandson, Richard Mac Neil; sisters, Ena Mac Donald (Charles), Alexis Munn (Harry); brother, Colin Mac Aulay (Janie).
Mary is survived by her daughter, Arlene Ashford (Tom); grandchildren, Ferne Ashford, Nancy Dionne (Adam), Len Shepard (Dean), Raymond Shepard, Roger Shepard (Claire), Robert Shepard (Jeanette), Corrine Mac Gillivary (Gary), David Mac Gillivary (Dawn), Dolna Mac Neil (Tony). She also had 17 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Noreen Franssen, Kathy Munn (Ray); and three nephews, Charles Mac Donald (Edna), George Mac Donald (Joanne), David Mac Aulay.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 15th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 11 a.m. at Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Alison Etter officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada and Hospice House Fredericton.
