Jennie Halliday

Jennie M. Halliday, of Victoria Street, Westville, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital where loving family members stayed by her side in her final days.

Born in New Glasgow and raised in Thorburn, she was the second of five children to the late Armand (Sr) and Christene (English) Lorge.

Jennie enjoyed getting outside at every opportunity for camping, fishing, gardening, and swimming. Undeniably, she loved shopping and providing for her household and those around her. Jennie cherished all friends and family and showed her love in every available way such as celebrating birthdays and holidays. She was a proud mother to her son and she took special interest in the lives of her grandchildren by attending hockey games, school events and much more whenever possible. Along with her doting husband, Harold, she would simply hit the road with the camper and some fishing rods, or open her home for a meal with loved ones, and strive to share her life and love and to make the memories in which she'll be forever held.

Jennie was proud to work at Zellers before finding a career with Superior Propane leading to her well-deserved retirement. Always a lead in offering help or to support her family and friends, Jennie always made sure everyone was looked after; for great reason she was known to so many simply as “Sis”. As she slowed down in recent years, she still brought smiles to faces around her with her sense of humour and remained focused and attentive to the visiting birds and deer in her yard. Jennie always found great peace in watching them through her living room window. In that home and far beyond, her presence is one that will be dearly missed by so many.

Jennie is survived by her husband Harold; son, Randy, of New Glasgow; grandchildren, Justine Halliday (Mark), of Halifax; Adam Halliday (Dominique), of New Glasgow; siblings Diane Lorge, of Stellarton, Cecelia Ann Sartoris, of Thorburn, brother Armand (Sharon) Lorge, of Thorburn; brother-in-law Russell Halliday (Alaine) of Churchville; and many nieces and nephews, Cavelle, Michelle, Jennifer, Carleigh, Katelyn, Michaela, Craig, Dana, Matthew, Ryan, Laura, Michelle, Chris and Steve. She is predeceased by her brother Roderick “Roddie” Lorge and brother-in law Blair Halliday.

Sis is resting now at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville. Visitation is open on Thursday, March 21, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at two o’clock on Friday, March 22, in the Eagles Funeral Chapel in Westville, with Rev. Dr. Mary Taylor officiating. Spring burial will be in Thorburn Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and The Kidney Foundation of Canada. www.eaglesfuneralhome.ca
