Eileen (MacNeil) Murphy

Eileen Murphy (MacNeil) passed away peacefully February 22, 2019, at age 89, in the Palliative Care Unit of Parkland at the Lakes, Lewis Hall, Dartmouth. Born in Dominion, C.B. on October 28, 1929, she grew up in a large family. Eileen entered the Sisters of St. Martha in 1953 and was known as Sister Adrian. She was a teacher and taught in schools throughout Cape Breton. After 17 years, she left St. Martha’s to care for her ailing father. On his passing, she moved to Halifax where she taught in Halifax County schools. There, she met Frank Murphy and they were married on August 13, 1977. They had a long and happy life together until Frank’s passing in 2017. Eileen was very active in her community and in St. Joseph’s Parish life. She was an ardent member of the C.W.L. and was known throughout her life for her tremendous generosity to her neighbours, friends and relatives.
She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Frank Murphy; parents, Malcolm N. and Minnie (Gillis) MacNeil, a twin brother, Adrian and brothers, Norman, Charlie, John V., Josie, Francis, Alec and a sister, Mary; also, sisters-in-law, Mae T. and Gladys. She is survived by one brother, Malcie MacNeil of New Waterford, C.B, sisters-in-law, Kaye, Lena, Liz, Connie, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. in Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata (Formally St. Stephen’s Parish), 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax. With Father Andrew Rembarczyk and Deacon Jack MacNeil presiding. Reception in the church hall immediately following Mass. No flowers by her request. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata C.W.L. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
