It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Kibyuk, age 96 on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at her residence in Glace Bay surrounded by her family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Gladys (Ling) Rafferty.
Margaret worked in a war plant in Quebec and was also a nurse’s aid in the homecare field. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Church. Margaret’s hobbies included bowling, playing cards and taking care of her home. But mostly she will be remembered as a compassionate and loving mother who also fostered many children over the years.
Margaret is survived by three daughters, Betty (Jim-deceased) Butterfield, Brenda (Michael) Boutilier, Debbie Morrison; two sons, John Kibyuk and Anthony “Bo” Kibyuk. She is also survived by her brother, Butch (Carmie) Rafferty; five grandchildren, Christina (Patrick), Darren (Melissa), Stephen, Amanda, Patricia (Mike), Connie (Tony) and six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Annabell, Kyran, Dylan and Taylor.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Tony Kibyuk; two sons, Michael, Billy and several brothers and sisters.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel and Reception Centre, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date in St. Anne’s Church followed by interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Special thanks to Dr. Ann D’Intino, Dr. Kodagoda, 4thFloor Nurses, VON’s and Homemakers for the great care provided to our mother.
