MUISE, M. B. “Bernice” – age 84, Morris Island, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 20, 1934 on Morris Island (Carino), she was the oldest of ten children born to the late Georgie and Anna (Surette) LeBlanc. Bernice worked as a caretaker, house servant, fish plant worker but her favorite was working as a cook at Amirault’s Hill School serving all the children. Her biggest passions were her faith, quilting and playing cards with family. Bernice saw the beauty in the simple things in life such as baking, knitting, sitting in her father's rocking chair while watching the birds, watching the snow fall, enjoying a good feed of lobster, flowers, clamming, fishing and going out on the ocean water. She was an avid traveler and visited many different places such as the Holy Land, Rome, Poland, Bermuda, throughout the USA and Canada, along with cruises and the Caribbean. Aside from all of that beauty, faith and family were truly what meant the most to Bernice. A devoted Catholic, she was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, having helped clean the church until her illness no longer allowed her to. Bernice was at her happiest being of service to others and sharing meals with family and friends. Her home was always filled with warmth, joy and laughter. Bernice will be remembered as an exceptional and very compassionate woman who lived a simple life and always going above and beyond for others before her own needs. Bernice was a member of the Surette’s Island Social Club, the Indian Sluice Seniors, serving many different community boards and also volunteered at Nakile Home for Special Care since it opened. Bernice leaves behind her loving children, Anita (Roy) Moulaison, Amirault’s Hill; Roland (Corinne) Muise, Saugus, MA; Carmella (Allan) Surette, Amirault’s Hill; Karen (Gerald) MacDonald, Belleville; Lynn (Bill) Vollmer, Edmonton; Roslyn Paulick (Garth Spinney), Gavelton, as well as 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, George, Gerald, Lawrence, Arthur, Milton, Vernon and sisters, Gladys, Evelyn and Betty. Visitation took place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday with prayers at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. A funeral Mass took place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30 from Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Surette’s Island, Father Maurice LeBlanc officiated.
