Robert Martin "Bobby" Gunn - age 87 of East River St. Mary’s passed away on March 30, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born September 6, 1931 in New Glasgow he was the only child of the late Herbert and Margaret (Vaughn) Gunn. Bobby was a resident of East River St. Mary’s most of his life. He was an active member of Bethany United Church where he served as treasurer for over 30 years. He graduated in 1961 from the Maritime Forest Ranger School and was employed for 30 years with the Department of Lands and Forests out of Pictou County. Much of his career was involved with the management of crown land, wildfire suppression, and assisting with ground search and rescue. Bobby was one of the founding members of the North Eastern Christmas Tree Association and also a founding member of the East River St. Mary’s Fire Department. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fly fishing, hunting and trapping. Bobby loved nature, bird watching, star gazing, astronomy, reading, playing cards and fostered a love of nature in his children and grandchildren. In his retirement he enjoyed his Christmas tree lot, woodlot and blueberry fields. Bobby could often be seen travelling on his four-wheeler up over the hill to enjoy time on the multi generational family homestead. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace (Greene), East River St. Mary’s; daughter Irene (Charlie), Upper Economy; son Ian (Melissa) East River St. Mary’s; grandsons Cameron and Colton. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm on Monday, April 1, 2019 in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Bethany United Church, East River St. Mary’s with The Rev. Derek Elsworth officiating. Burial will be at East River St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Bethany United Church, East River St. Mary’s, or a charity of your choice. A special thank you is extended to the staff of the Aberdeen Hospital I.C.U., Palliative Care Unit, and all those who had a hand in the exceptional care given to Bobby.
