Paul Dexter Rogers - 82, of Northville, Kings County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at home. Born in Northville, Kings County, he was the eldest son of the late Dexter and Jennie (Harris) Rogers. Paul had been employed for over 34 years as a poultry technician with the Kentville Research Station, from where he retired. He was a long-standing member of the Kentville United Baptist Church. He was a member of the Dukes of Kent Barbershop Chorus (SPEBSQSA) and the War Surplus Gang. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Kings County Wildlife Association and upon his retirement, spent some time working as a Nuisance Wildlife Officer. Paul was well-known for his chicken barbecues, travelling throughout the province catering many events. An accomplished woodworker and carver, Paul created many items from the rough lumber through to the finished product. He also loved flower and vegetable gardening as well as square dancing with his wife, Sylvia. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sylvia (Burgher); children, Mark (Leslie Campbell), Kentville; Sherry (Wayne) Bonderud, Calgary and Shelley Rogers (Rosanne Balsom), Cochrane, Alberta; two sisters, Anne (Eric) Bezanson, Dartmouth; Nancy (Lorris) Keizer, Antigonish; a brother, Mike (Darlene) Rogers, Brule; a brother-in-law, Evans Gillis, Pugwash; four grandchildren, Logan Acker, Calgary; Dustin Acker (Evelyn Helie), Montreal; Devan Rogers (Ali Kearnes), Sackville; Caitlin Rogers (Stephen Mirfin), Cambridge; a granddaughter-in-law, Charlotte “Charlie” Peak, Halifax; a great grandson, Cedar Rogers, Halifax; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, Grant; a sister, Cora Gillis. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2019 in the Kentville United Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor David Bielby officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital - Carey-Me Program (Supporting Palliative Care in the home), the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or the charity of your choice.
