Violet Jane (Scott) Whitty

Born: March 24th, 1942

Passed on: April 1st, 2019

On Monday, April 1, 2019 Violet Jane (Scott) Whitty went home to her eternal God. She was born on March 24, 1942, to Thomas (Tubby) Scott and Casilda (Pookie) Cavanaugh in North Sydney, NS. After Violet’s father passed away, Pookie married Maurice Whitty who became Violet’s second father.
She worked at the Keltic Lodge in the housekeeping department for a number of years and also at the Highland Manor nursing home in Neil’s Harbour for 25 years, until her retirement in 2006.
She was a devoted catholic, a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church choir, and dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League, serving in a number of positions, including president for several years. She loved to spend time with her family, go for daily walks with her husband and swim in the ocean at Ingonish beach.
The most important people in her life were her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Maurice Francis; her kind and loving sons, Leonard (Clare Johnson) and Perry (Lisa) and her caring and dedicated daughter, Wanda (Dean Barron) who cared for her Mom daily throughout the past year. The greatest joys in her life were her cherished grandsons, Alex, Brenden and Brett who always made her smile and brought her pride.
She is also survived by her brothers, Danny Cavanaugh, Billy (Millie) Scott and George (Wanda) Whitty; sister, Maria Fitzgerald, as well as her Whitty in laws who were more like brothers and sisters to her, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her parents-in-law, George and Gertrude Whitty; her sons, Frank, Blair; infant son, Joseph; brothers, Gerard and Alexander (in infancy), and sister-in-law, Marie Cavanaugh.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, especially the staff and residents of Highland Manor nursing home, who treated her with dignity and love throughout the past year. Special thanks to the staff, as well as Doctors J. Ritter, K. Murray, B. Buffet and N. Smith.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s church, Ingonish Beach, on Thursday, April 4th at 11 a.m. with Fr. Alphonsus Iwuji officiating.
Visitation hour in the church beginning at 10 a.m. A funeral reception will take place at Ingonish community centre following the service. Burial will take place at a later date.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Highland Manor fund raising committee, 175 New Haven Rd., Neil’s Harbour, NS B0C 1N0.
