Passed on: April 6th, 2019

Sadly, we, the family of Isabel Evelyn MacDonald, 97, regret to announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in South Cove, Victoria County, on July 26, 1921, Isabel was the daughter of the late Daniel A. MacIver and Hannah C. MacDonald.
Her early education was in a one room school in South Cove. She graduated high school from Sydney Academy and then Normal College in Truro. Isabel began her teaching career in the Little Narrows area, then moved to Florence in 1955, where she taught for 22 years until her retirement in 1978.
Isabel was a dedicated member of Wilson United Church where she served as treasurer for 18 years. She was also a member of the Committee of Stewards and the United Church Women. She was a quiltmaker, with the church ladies as well as at home, had a keen interest in knitting and reading, and at the age of 80 learned to use a computer, where she was able to work at her other great interest, genealogy.
Isabel is survived by daughter, Evelyn (Roy) Wells; grandchildren, Leeanne (Joey) Barrington, N.S., and Greg, Atlanta, GA.; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Morgan; sister-in-law, Louise MacIver, Sydney, N.S. and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, Murdoch 71 years ago; brothers, Donald and Angus; sisters, Anna in childhood and Margaret in infancy; sisters-in-law, Anna, Catherine and Alice, and brother-in-law, Gordon.
Heartfelt thanks to all the caring staff at the Northside Community Guest Home, and Dr. John Kirkpatrick for his care over the years.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial donations may be made to the Sydney Mines & Area Food Bank, The Estmere Cemetery, or a charity of choice.
Graveside service to be held at the Estmere Cemetery on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 2 p.m. with Dianne Kempt DLM officiating. Notice will be posted in the Cape Breton Post prior to the date.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
