Dr. Richard Stanley “Dick” Cain - 77 years, from Wolfville, NS, passed away in his new home in Dartmouth, NS, on Saturday, 13 April 2019. Richard was born on 28 May 1941 in Wolfville to the late Doris (Butler) and Bernard Cain. He attended Wolfville High School and Acadia University - where he was captain of the track team - in his beloved home town. He then went on to qualify as a medical doctor at Dalhousie University with a specialization in anesthesia at McGill in Montreal. “Dick”, as he was known to his friends, worked as an anesthetist at Saint John General Hospital, NB, and then at the Valley Regional in Kentville, NS, until his retirement. Richard had an abiding love for his daughters and for nature as well as a good sense of humour and a quick wit. Richard is survived by his daughters, Maria and Julia Cain; his two sons-in-law, Shawn Fuller and Philip Ravenscroft; four grandchildren (Chloe and Lillian Fuller in Nova Scotia and Gabriel and Aidan Ravenscroft in South Africa); his sister, Marcia (Cain) and her husband, Doug Mouland in Truro and their children, Laura and Peter. Special thanks to the staff at Laurel's Lake Residence who provided excellent care during his final few months of life. Their kindness and compassion are greatly appreciated. A funeral service and reception was held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A private family burial took place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Richard to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Nature Conservancy of Canada or a local sports team.
