William Ryan, 77, of Farmingdale N.J. passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. He was born in Goulds, Newfoundland and moved to New York with his bride Patricia, living in Brooklyn and Staten Island. He moved to Farmingdale's Equestra community 10 years ago after retirement. Bill worked as an ironworker for local 361 and a boilermaker for the New York Department of Sanitation at the Freshkills Landfill in Staten Island. He was an avid sportsman, taking great joy in hunting and fishing. He was honored with a lifetime membership to the sporting club GJOA located in Brooklyn, NY. Bill loved watching the JETS and taking care of his vegetable garden in his free time. He was an adept handyman and you would often find him helping friends and family with various home improvement projects. Bill loved nothing more than singing along with his family at gatherings especially during his yearly trips back home to Newfoundland. We hope he is enjoying singing with the angels now. Bill is survived by Patricia, his loving wife of 57 years, his son Billy (Maureen), daughters Diane Walsh (Danny), Linda Smith (Tommy), and JoAnne Brooks (Frank). Proud Poppy of 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings Gert, Bessie and Jimmy of Goulds, Newfoundland and many beloved nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to view from 1-5pm on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune, NJ . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in his honor.
