It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Mary Power, age 89, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, August 15, 1929, Marjorie was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Kathleen (Yorke) Guy. She worked as the switch board operator at St. Elizabeth Hospital, later she and her husband Bob operated B&D Dairy on King Street. She was a devout member of St. Joseph Church, as well as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Denise (Reg) Jardine; her son, Blair (Veronica) Power; stepson, Dennis Power; six grandchildren, Christian, Makayla, Evan, Garron, Marissa and Ryan, all of North Sydney; her brothers, Leonard ‘Sonny’ (Joan) Guy, North Sydney, Dave (Jillian) Guy, Sydney Mines, Michael Guy, Edmonton; sisters, Maria (Greg) Westhaver, Westmount, Sheila (Shaun) McMillan, London, ON, Mary Donald, Halifax, also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her close friends, Ellen McNamara, Barbara Williams, Debbie Bond, Catherine Seymour, Caroline Campbell, Audrey and Carl Pottier.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Robert ‘Bob’ Power in 1986; sisters, Helen (Ray) Morgan, Lexie (George) Wilkie; her brother, Wilfred ‘Buddy’ (Patsy) Guy; her goddaughter, Kathleen Bennett, and brother-in-law, Wally Donald.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bill MacDonald, nurses and staff of 4C at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Northside Home Care workers for their care and compassion given to Marjorie during her illness.
Visitation for Marjorie will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating and Rev. Patrick O’Neill con-celebrating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
