Clarice ‘PUD’ Dean

Clarice ‘PUD’ Dean

Passed on: April 19th, 2019

Heavy hearts do not describe the sadness we feel with the passing of our beautiful mother, Clarice ‘Pud’ Dean, 94 years young. Mom passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, CCU on April 19, 2019. Born in Glace Bay in 1925, she was the daughter of the late James Kenneth and Mary Grace (Budden) Francis. She grew up in Neil’s Harbour and was raised by Beatrice and Jim Buffett.
She is survived by her sons, Jack (Margie), Kenny (Debbie), Brian (Donelda), all of Glace Bay and Greg, Ontario; daughters, Linda (Giffy) Rideout, Joan (Robert) McLean and Winnie (Joe) Turner, all of Glace Bay; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her daughter (in infancy), Cynthia Marie; daughter-in-law, Rose; her former husband, Robert ‘Bob’ Dean; sisters, Mabel, Blanche, Shirley, Lil, Betty, Clementine, Rita, Gladys, Violet, and one brother, Don. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mom had a witty sense of humor, an amazing memory and a laugh that bellowed from the bottom of her belly. Mom’s favorite pastimes included: playing bingo, phone calls with the family, supervising and bossing her granddaughters when baking for her, crocheting and knitting. She was still actively making quilts for her family with her close friend, Emma Lloyd. In her earlier years she enjoyed cooking and baking and loved the smell of fried onions like nobody’s business. Mom loved her family more than words can say, she was also ‘MA’ and ‘Nan’ to many of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends and also her “Caregivers”.
The family would like to thank Dr. Carol Boutilier for the exceptional care given to her for many years; the compassionate staff of the VON; New Waterford Homemakers (Caring Angels) with special mention – Marlene Simms (her morning sunshine) and Kelly Warner (her tuck-in at night) and family who helped her to be independent and enable her to live in her home.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, from 4 – 6 p.m. at T.J Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay with a reception to follow.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Burial will take place at a later date.
Expression of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
