Agnes “Toots†Corbin passed away peacefully on September 2, 2009, just 8 days before her 97th birthday. Agnes Paxton was born September 10, 1912 in Sintaluta SK. Her family moved to the Aneroid district in 1923 and into the Village of Aneroid in 1929. Toots saw Aneroid go from a village, to a town, back to a village and finally to a hamlet. Toots’ favourite time of year was Christmas when she would dress as Santa and share her antics with the people of Aneroid. If you needed a good laugh, just go and spend some time with Toots and she would certainly provide you with one. Mom’s memory was like a steel trap – even up to the last few months when someone came to see her she wouldn’t only know their name, but their mother’s name, their maiden name and something about them that made them feel special. Toots hair dressed for 25 years, then was a civil servant at the Aneroid post office for 18 year and spending the last 4 ½ years as the postmaster. Mom was one of the founding members of Aneroid’s 50 Plus, past president of the Legion Auxiliary #85, member of the Royal Purple and a person that gave everything she could to the community. Two things that Mom loved to talk about were her trips to Alaska and Scotland. Oh what stories she told about those trips.
Toots is predeceased by her husband Eric, father Tom, mother Alice, one brother Gib and two sisters Evelyn and Irene. Left to miss Mom and tell her stories are two sons, Bill of Victoria and Bob of Aneroid grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of Mom’s favourite sayings was “A man’s reach should exceed his grasp – or what’s a Heaven for.â€
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Aneroid 50 Plus of which Mom was a founding member. Toots requested that she have no funeral so the family will hold a celebration of her life at a later date.
