Murdock Burnett Russell - age 89, of Kentville, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville following several weeks of illness. Born on March 14, 1930 in Kentville, he was a son of the late Frank and Lillian (Vidito) Russell of Kentville. He was a lifetime resident of his hometown and was employed for many years in this area. He loved playing golf and over many years was a member of several golf clubs, including Glengarry Pines where he won many championship trophies, the Minas View Golf Course, Hants County and for the past several seasons, the Above Par Course, Wilmot. He took great joy in his impersonations of singing idol, Elvis Presley. Being a loyal Acadia Axemen hockey fan, he was in attendance for their home games for many seasons. Well in to his mid-eighties, he skated twice a week at Kentville Centennial Arena. Of paramount importance, as well, were his daily meetings with friends at a favorite fast-food restaurant. Often the envy of his friends was his large and unique collection of hockey jerseys. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Gertie (Young) Russell; sister, June (Ronald) Fiddick, Nanaimo, British Columbia; brother, Burton, Kentville; sister-in-law, Joanne Wilson, Oromocto, New Brunswick and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Marion (at birth), Sylvia (Borden) Carter, Joyce (Samuel) Caldwell, Marguerite (Phillipe) LeBlanc and Leona Russell; brothers, Courtney, Garth (Rita), Roderick (Mary), Shirley (Florence) and Leo (Gertrude). Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A graveside service for family and friends will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019 in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Murdock’s nephew, Reverend Blake Caldwell of Dartmouth will be officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
