It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of a wonderful partner, father, poppy, brother, uncle and friend, Kelvin Waye, age 77, on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. Kelvin passed away peacefully at the Northside General Hospital with his family by his side, after a lengthy illness, and is now resting in God’s hands.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 4, 1941, he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Pyke) Waye.
Kelvin worked for Devco until his retirement. In his younger years he was an avid baseball player. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Newfoundland with his friend Reggie. Some of Kelvin’s most memorable times were the hunting trips with his sons Glen, Frankie and Paul in the Highlands along with numerous trips to the cabin in Margaree, bowling nights, card and board game nights with family and friends. He was a Toronto fan of both the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays.
Kelvin is survived by his “Honey” and soul mate of 37 years, Ann Devoe; his children, Glen (Sydney Mines), Gail (Gary), Groves Point and their brother Michael (Tracy), Florence; his step-children, Betty Ann (Richard), North Sydney, Frankie (Nancy), Sydney Mines and Maureen (Darren), North Sydney. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mitchell (Andrea), Jeffrey (Amy), Nancy (Joey), Clifford (Lindsey), Emma, Janine and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Maggie and Henry; his brother, James, and sisters, Laverne, Sarah Ann and Alana, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his step-son, Paul; sisters, Kay Gillis and Jessie Butts; brothers-in-law, Ernie Butts, Billy Boutilier, Billy Gillis, Nick Tucker, and nephew, Davey Fells.
Kelvin’s family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 2-4 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, with Words of Remembrance at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.
Donations in Kelvin’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to Kelvin’s family by visiting www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
