With deep sadness we announce the passing of Mary C. MacIsaac, 83, North Sydney on Friday, May 24, 2019. Mary passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on April 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Margaret (Lee) Cleary. Mary graduated from the former Saint Elizabeth hospital in 1956 and began a long career in nursing administration and diabetes education. In 2000 Mary received an Excellence in Nursing Practice award from the Registered Nurses Association for her ground-breaking work in the diabetes community. Upon her retirement in 2000 Mary received the first Health Care Provider of the year award from her employer. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Parish, North Sydney. Mary remained actively involved in the parish community for many years having served as a member of the Parish Council, as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Family Life Committee, as coordinator of Religious education, CWL and the Cursillo Movement. Mary also gave back to her community having served as a past president of Kiwanis, past chair of the Northside the Lakes Community Health Board, a member of the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation, active in the Knights of Columbus, past member of the Seaview Golf and Country Club and a member of the British car club.
Mary loved to travel which she did with her husband Mike within Canada and the U.S on their motorcycle. Mary also loved to go shopping with Pat and travel with the girls, enjoying several trips to Florida, Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach. Mary also had a flair for fashion and she was often admired for her sense of style.
She is survived by her Husband of 58 years Michael, her three sons Steve (Maureen), Paul (Angela), Roger, special niece Patricia Stevenson, sister Theresa Young, grandchildren Stephanie (Michael Alexander), Joshua, Christian, great-granddaughter Charlie Alexander, and many other nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her two brothers Fred and Harry and five sisters Louise, Helen, Eleanor, Catherine, and Annette.
Visitation for Mary will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W. J. Dooley Funeral Home 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
