Eric Emmet Young

Eric Emmet Young

With heart-filled sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Eric Emmet Young, a wonderful and loving husband and father on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Abbie Lane Memorial Hospital, Halifax. Emmet, as known by most, was a resident of Williston House, Sydney.
Born October 23, 1937, in South Bar, he was the son of the late Eric and Jessie Young.
In 1998, he retired from the Steel Plant, where he worked in the Rail Finishing Mill. In his earlier years, Emmet enjoyed coaching hockey, along with playing and was a member of the Sydney Steel Bowling League. Emmett enjoyed camping and, of course, dancing with his wife. It was nothing to see them together at a dance, dancing all night long. Emmet’s biggest passion was spending time with his wife and he made every moment count.
Emmet is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elsie (Veinot); daughter, Deborah Young (Sandy Muggah), Halifax; brother-in-law, Gerald (Jackie) Veinot, Aylesford; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Eric Wyman and sister, Mary Covey.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, June 9 from 3-5 p.m. Interment in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
Thank you goes out to Dr. Hebb for the past seven months of being Emmet’s biggest supporter. Also, a special thanks and appreciation to the wonderful nurses on the 9th floor of Abbie Lane Hospital for all the amazing work, kindness and comfort they provided Eric over these past months. We cannot thank them enough.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
