Arlene POPLAR

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arlene Poplar, at the age of 58, one day short of her 59th birthday. A beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Arlene passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre after a long battle with Mesothelioma. Arlene was the first-born child to the late Russell Gogan and Judy (Capson) Gogan. Born in Amherst, Arlene grew up in Lower Maccan. Graduating from RHDH in 1978, this was also the year she met the love of her life Michael and decided to start their family. In 1985 the family ventured West, settling in Saskatoon. Over the next 17 years, Arlene could be found working at the local bowling alleys and watching her daughters bowl; she was also often seen either working or trying her luck at the bingo hall. In 2001, her and Michael decided to move back home to Nova Scotia. After moving back, Arlene was employed at Ropak in Springhill for 12 years, where she met her dear friend Joyce (Dean) Ruddick. For her last years she enjoyed semi-retirement spending time between the cottage at Jackson’s Point and the family home in River Hebert. She really enjoyed Friday card nights playing Chase the Ace with her many friends including Stacey Webb, Wallace and Stella Chiasson, at Jackson’s Point, and April Porter and Ryan Vansnick of River Hebert; Who all held a special place in her heart. Arlene is survived by her loving husband Michael, her daughters Melissa (Mohammed) and Brandy (Will), her grandson Tyrell (Danieka), and step-son Shannon (Jennifer). She is also survived by her mother Judy, sisters Karen, and Wanda (Lou), grandchildren Sontaye, Suraya, Jaden, Konrad, and Benjamin. Along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Russell, and brother Edward.
